65. June 6, 2010 (this past tues.)

My cat knows to crawl inside the Corona 12-pack
box on the floor, flee to the frigidaire boudoir
when the men with toolbelts trundle upstairs.

i field a phone interview, palms sticking to diner
kitchen table. Professional linoleum, salty grip
on my fountain pen. Can you tell me something

about your most recent independent project?
This virtual
workshop i'm building the infrastructure of-- a rabbit attic
to play dress-up, empty long-locked trunks, find new ears

to better tell our twice-told tales. The haunted hole--
a crawl space for canned prose and jams, we'll spread
something sweet to read on toast, marmalade our way

out of cliché. And when i cut open the brown box
of high school handouts, manuscript of my first
virginal memoir? i decide my cat has the right idea.

Leave her to gnaw on the packing tape, and i crawl
inside the Corona box, squeeze a lime onto my sternum.

64. July 5, 2010 (mon.)

i'm hibernating through summer still
dreaming of salamanders emerging
from ice chests, wilted ivy choking

air conditioners shut. Thirty love bites
rise slowly from my skin, antihistamines
mean i can't really feel the fans and i resist

peeling off the Benadryl gel, curling liquid
latex off my legs. i'm not going to write
that the rosiest bumps feel like miniature breasts.
But they do.

Apocalyptic Pocahontas?
before i was eated alive by my beloveds/bugs i'm so allergic to. took by Tj.

63. SWANKVILLE, USA (July 4, 2010)

No 1812 overture in the champagne
this year. i already am having my recovery
from sparklers and shots, Sunday in.

Saturday, July 3rd's expensive adrenaline,
borrowed bourgeoise behaviours. "There's
only one thing one would be doing in a hammock

with that man." Mushrooms?
i wander away from the outdoor
surround sound putting green heated pool

increasingly nude and aggressively so
hot tub ruckus. i peek in the barn doors
of the childrens' rooms. You'd never know

under all the mosquito bites, middle class
masochism they keep TGIF mixers in their
wine cabinet. Their lawnkeeping is impeccable.

They throw great house parties, in absentia.
A few hours peeking at their blue label
and i'm set for the fireworks behind my poor eyes.

62. July 3, 2010 (last sat.)

My oatmeal spoon glints in the ash tray
outside the dining hall, i hate to leave
our conversation about writing as happy

trees, architecture, the revision process angry
trees added over orange swipes of setting sun.
Revision as mixed paint metaphor for the afro'd man

so excited to teach painting on the television.
Here i am to sermonize on the new media
in a long arts skirt, poofy 60's bob. Let's go,

memories of college pocketwatches under
the conference table. Start from the wine dungeon
up, torch-lit tour, this internet we inhabit. The safe word is re

-naissance, pronounced like an Australian
might. i can show the class-- servant stairwell
to the statcounter i've installed, covert beneath

starched white tablecloth, google alerts?
The dumbwaiter. i swear it's ok to claim
an online username, pseudonym smoke.

61. July 2, 2010 (last fri.)

"i came from work, i decided, 'it's ok, i have a pretty
face.'" Did i just say that out loud? Despite
half-deflated hair, please ignore smell
of my part time day job wafting off (free

me from Febreze products) i came
straight to my university of then, and now?
Parked in the teacher lot, applied a couplet
of six syllable lip products. My mentor

never needs mirror for blush, cheekbones'
enjambment. A reading spent squinting at
both of our silver shoes while scribbling,
surreptitious smart phone usage-- then we're

on a mission for nice underwear with my visitor
pass for the wrong side of Harvard Square.
Cocky that my cursive correspondence can
get me out of tickets lately, watermarked roses.

Both of our reflections hold the elastic of fancy
clothes lines hip-huggers around our necks "it works
with pants waist size!" The saggy bottom
part of the panties, dangles like cotton beard,

a fruit of the loom feed-sack under her chin.
"Are you a vegetarian?" Not anymore, but if it's
tofu crutons and eggplant mush, to Veggie Planet.
i've never felt more professorial, trading boy

tantrum tales. "You must like living here." She
interjects, imitating her baby's old lady walk
while people trying to get into the 24 hour market
wait for the pantomime to finish passing

the doorway. i'm never more of a spaz than
with her rock star clogs. The shopkeep that kept
boutique open for us had asked after some neck
craning, "Are your shoes sparkly?"
"Yes, but only trying to keep up with hers."
